A large quick-service restaurant chain training kitchen and front-of-house staff

Illustrative example: how a large, multi-site quick-service restaurant chain might use VR for consistent fire safety and first aid training across a high-turnover workforce.

This is an illustrative example, not a specific real customer or reported result. It shows how an organisation of this type might use 4 HELP VR training. Real UK case studies will replace or join these once deployments are completed and customers agree to be featured.

The organisation

A large quick-service restaurant chain operating many sites nationally, with a young, high-turnover workforce — many in their first job — and a constant need to induct new kitchen and front-of-house staff consistently across every location.

The challenge

Kitchen environments involve real hazards — hot oil, fryers, hot surfaces, sharp equipment — that are genuinely unsafe to recreate for training purposes, yet every new starter needs the same consistent grounding in fire safety and basic first aid before their first shift. Many new starters were young and in their first job, with little or no prior exposure to a commercial kitchen, and onboarding timelines were tight: sites typically needed a new starter trained and ready for shifts within days, leaving little room for lengthy hands-on rehearsal using real equipment during service.

With dozens of sites and constant turnover, the core problem was never a single training event — it was keeping that same standard of hazard training consistent, week after week, site manager after site manager, however often the workforce changed over.

What they might do

  • Pilot a Team package (6 headsets) at a regional training hub before rolling out further
  • License the Fire Safety module for kitchen fire hazard awareness and evacuation procedure, and First Aid for common kitchen injuries such as burns and cuts
  • Add the Occupational Health & Safety module for slips, hot surface awareness and safe kitchen movement
  • Build a short VR scenario into every new starter's induction, so the same consistent training is delivered whichever site they join
  • Scale toward a Business package (10 headsets) as rollout extends to more regional hubs

What this illustrates

How VR training can help a large, multi-site employer deliver exactly the same hazard-awareness training everywhere, however often staff turn over — without ever needing to recreate a real kitchen fire to do it. See our guide on using VR in health and safety training for more on embedding this into an induction programme.
